Tennant Creek
I stayed a day in Tennant Creek to just relax a bit. It had been 14 days of continuous riding since I left Cairns and Abo-Dai was feeling more and more tired with each passing day. I stayed in a campsite whilst Dai roughed it at the information centre on the sly. Every dollar he does not spend on campsites is spent on Cola! Me, I’m happy with plain water.
At the site I met a few Irish girls who had some car trouble on the way down from Darwin and were stranded for the best part of a a week. At least they were in a campsite with a pool. At the Barkly Homestead a few days earlier there were four British who kit a Kangaroo and destroyed the radiator on their car. It was the first wild kangaroo they saw and they killed it! Anyhow they were stuck at the roadhouse but managed to get free food and accomodation in exchange for a bit of work. I later found out that the replacement radiator they were waiting for arrived but it was the wrong one so they were stuck for another few days.
A French guy rocked into the campsite the next day on a recumbant trike. He was on his way from Darwin to Uluru on a charity ride for Water Aid. As Dai and I were going south the next day to the Devils Marbles my solo effort has now turned into a group of three – at least for one day. I had a go on the trike, it’s very easy to ride and really comfortable but hills would be seriously tough on it. I don’t think it would suit me because of the extra pressure on the hip, I was only on it a few minutes and felt a twinge from the trouble spot.
