Coral Bay
In the morning on the way out of the park I was caught by the Ranger on duty for my overnight camping fees. Does sleeping on the beach really count as camping? Anyway he collected his money and sent me on my way. I made it back to Exmouth by 10am which was giving me hope of possibly making it to Coral Bay before dark. Like I said before it was 230 odd kilometers from where we camped in Cape Range National Park so it was a pretty big ask.
I stopped in Exmouth for breakfast, which consisted of 24 Weetbix and 2 litres of milk! It took a while to be able to take a deep breath after that! Then I hit the road again, the wind was picking up and I still had 150km to go. It was a tough days riding, the first 30km from Exmouth was pretty flat but with lots of floodways to cross which were short, sharp dips and rises and really energy sapping. The going wasn’t particularly quick and the hours were ticking away but so too were the kilometers. I made it into Coral Bay tired and ravenous but well before dark so I was pleased.
In Coral Bay there are two caravan parks, a backpackers and a hotel to choose from, it is a very small place. I checked out the cost of camping at the two parks, one wanted $24 and the other $30. So when the backpackers said it was $24 the decision was not a particularly difficult one to make. I could have kipped on the beach for free but a bed was a nice reward for a solid days efforts.

24 Weetabix?! That’s sick! In case anyone’s counting, thats 3043 calories of Weetabix. And from 2 litres of milk: 1340 calories. 4383 calories, Ross.
Well done, my friend. I’d love to see a chart of calorie consumption and needs during the peak of your trip; I bet you’re double the average human. Does that make you twice than man I am? Probably.
Cheers.
