The last hurrah to the Southern Forests is the Valley of the Giants near Denmark on the south coast. Here a platform has been built thats rises up as the valley floor drops away so that at the highest point you are 40m above the ground. The Valley of the Giants is mainly Red Tingle trees with a few Marri to be spotted here and there. It’s incredible just how big they get.

They are huge trees but a really cool feature is the hollow trunks at the base. They have shallow roots so to support the great height the base of the trunk is spread wide like buttresses. Some of them you can walk through due to fire and insect attack. Apparently back in the day there was on whos gap was so big people would back their car into it!

On a walking trail near here I stumbled across a tiger snake! I just come tramping around a bush and there he is about 10 feet in front of me. I’d been warned that they are agressive little buggers so I got the hell out of it’s way. Didn’t even think of taking a picture first.
