The loop is complete!

April 7th, 2007, Sydney by Ross

As you can gather from the title the ride is over and I've made it back to where it all started. Eight months and almost 18,000km yesterday afternoon I rode back into Sydney. It was strange, I'm dead tired and I was kind of glad that it was over but at the same time I wished it was just a pitstop and I was continuing on. Setting off the first morning I was bricking it, not at all confident I could hack it and at time it was incredibly difficult. It's been an unbelievable experience and one I'll never forget even when I'm old and senile. I'm still pinching myself that I've cycled all around a continent!

Some details of the journey in numbers:

  • Total Distance : 17,876km
  • Total Days Riding : 137
  • Total Time : 839 hours of riding (or 35 days without stopping!)
  • Average Speed : 21.3km/h (Not very fast but it was mostly headwinds. Honestly!)
  • Average Daily Distance : 130km
  • Pedal Revolutions : 5,179,986 (assuming 105rpm cadence and pedalling 98% of the time) Thats double if you count both legs.

I'm going to be here in Australia for another few months before my return in time for the le Tour Grand Depart in London, will get a little more riding in Victoria and maybe Tasmania before I fly home. Huge thanks to everyone who encouraged or supported me in any way along the road from family and friends to the people I've met out here like my 'support crew' in W.A. - The Pepsi-Max Family! Now it's your turn to get out and have an adventure!

Be good, Happy Easter and hopefully see some of you in July!
