On the road again…
I stayed another day in Hervey Bay to just be lazy and relax, mentally preparing myself for the next leg of the journey 🙂 Went out, spent a little time doing laundry, sorting out a new playlist for my iPod and other trivial but somehow very time comsuming tasks.
I left Hervey Bay at 5:30am, I woke thanks the the guy beside me turning his radio on at 3am which was just a little early I think. I tried to stay close to the coast along the back roads but I was forced back onto the highway by a river with no bridges across. Back on the highway I followed straight onto Gin Gin “Queenslands friendliest town” – however they arrived at that title, God only knows My lasting memory of the place will be forever one of discontent. My food and lighter were thieved by some scumbag at the hostel kitchen in Hervey Bay even though I had my stuff labeled clearly. I hope whoever took it chokes on it for their troubles. Anyway they took my lighter for my stove too so in Gin Gin I bought another one. Theiving ‘friendly’ shopkeeper charged me $2.40 for a lighter and when I went to use it that night it was empty. I had to get some matches from a couple in a caravan and ended up chatting to them about architecture of all things. What do I know about that?
I stopped at a rest area about 50km from nowhere (these places are my home now). This place was cool though, it had loads of space for camping and there was a covered picnic area with lights so I could read. When cooking a couple joined me for their dinner too. I was boiling up some pasta with pesto and some veg, they were dining on Salmon cutlets, freshly tossed salad, and wine from wine glasses. Travelling in style for sure! Anyway come time for desert they game me half a pineapple and some chocolate. I offered them some tea in return but they graciously refused, I only had one mug anyway 🙂
