Cloncurry and a supermarket
The worst part about being out in the outback is the lack of stores with milk or fresh fruit and veg. At a roadhouse a bottle of milk can cost $5.60 as opposed to $2 at a supermarket – if they have any that is. After a really hot and windy day we made it to Cloncurry and a Woolworths. It’s only been a week but I feel the loss of milk severely. Porridge and tea doesn’t really taste as good without it.
There was a little park beside the police station across the road from the supermarket and despite the no camping signs and the risk of coppers I decided I was going nowhere until the morning. After making some food I locked my bike to a fence and fell asleep on the grass. It was a really hard day, the heat and the wind making it extremely tiring and I just passed out. It had some good points though, just after lunch as we were taking a serious pounding from the heat and wind a guy stops and gave each of us an icy cold can of Coke. Dai loves Coke more than anything and nearly cried when he saw the can being offered.
Later again we passed a little place called Quamby with a solitary pub, a quick call in resulted in 2 water bottles full of ice water. So very very good
Mount Isa is the next town, the largest in the area and maybe even some mobile phone coverage if I’m lucky!
