Koala

I went to a wildlife reserve today to see some of Australia’s native creatures, mainly the endangered ones. It was small but pretty cool. I got to hold Koala bears. The lazy, fat little balls of fur are cool but they stink – I mean they really stink! I just love the way they curl up into a ball wrapped around a branch and kip for 18 or 20 hours. What a life. There were plenty of Kangaroos about too. I fed a little joey who was hanging out of his mothers pouch, they are so cute.

You eyeballing me?

I was leaning up against a fence taking a picture of a something or other. I turn around and see a huge Emu eyeballing me from about 6 inches away. I think he was just hungry for some attention, struck a few nice poses for the camera. I was keeping out of range of that beak though, it looked like it would hurt and that bird looked all kinds of crazy! Some sort of red and green parrot there took a fancy to my hair and kept landing on my head, sharp talons almost took chunks out of my head. I think I’d better change the shampoo to something less irresistible. Now if only it had the same effect on a different species…
