Lucky Man

I’m a lucky man really, I’m not sure what I’d have done had I got sick like that on the side of the road somewhere. If there was a good place for it to happen, right where I was, was it. I was so wrecked I needed help from Vince to get to the shower and some germans at the campsite gave me anti-nausea pills. There were some British girls on a tour camping out for the night too and one of them had some dehydration salts which helped for sure. Lucky man indeed!

Vinces Dad sorted out a bed for me on the veranda of the old station building and a stockman working there offered to let me inside into the homestead for air conditioning if I needed it. By sleeping time I much better and slept on the converted sunlounger. My recovery from the illness was almost as fast as getting sick to begin with. I wasn’t feeling ill at all within 18 hours, I was eating again too but with no appetite. I’ve still no idea what it was or what caused it but it was gone fast. I probably should have stayed another day at Banka Banka to recover and rehydrate properly but there was a strong southerly wind and I wanted to ride it for all it was worth. It took just over 3 hours to get to Renner Springs but I barely had to turn to pedal apart from the few lumps I had to go over. I’d have been screwed if the wind had changed though, 60km of coasting exhausted me!
