I had a lovely sleep for the first time in days, the room was lovely and cool and the bed had a gloriously comfortable mattress. Hostel beds while not too bad are not the best and sometimes I’ve been more comfortable sleeping on the grass but this was a proper bed
The airconditioning cut out due to some power problem but the room was cool at that stage.
I had a huge feed for breakfast, 18 Weet Bix and 2 litres of milk with a few peanut butter and plum jam sandwiches. I’ve only enough oats for one more meal and I’ll need that tomorrow morning. I’ve consumed 1.5kg of oats for brekky since I left Katherine which is a lot of oats.
It was a good morning riding, I think the sleep had something to do with that, I didn’t feel wrecked and was doing about 5km/h better than the last few days in the same conditions. Later I was stopped at a rest area 100km out of Fitzroy for a feed, while I was there my man came past and pulled in with water for me. He actually went and bought 6 litres of lovely mineral water. I’d have been delighted with any water but this was just icing on the cake. It tasted so good compared to the stuff I’m normally drinking.
Later that evening I stopped early, I came to a good spot for camping and I could see the clouds building ominously for a storm so it was good time to call it quits. Putting a tent up in strong winds isn’t the easiest job. There were about a million mozzies at that spot but I think I’m building up a resistance to them. The bites that used to cause blisters barely even raise a bump or itch now. And they didn’t seem to be so attracted to be anymore. I was told that extra vitamin B6 helps to repel them so I got some multi-vitamins. Maybe it does actually help, but in any case they lack of fresh veg out here can’t be good for me and the vitamins should help offset that somewhat.
