Bunda Cliffs

Once past the border at Eucla and into South Australia the road moves closer to the coast. The road goes back up to the Hampton Tablelands from the Roebuck Plain. The bluff was a constant feature on my left side for the last two days from Madura Pass to the Eucla Pass but now it is flat as far as the eye can see again.

The first opportunity to see the cliffs is about 20km past the border. It is a truly impressive sight. The land just drops away at your feet into the cold blue ocean. As far as you can see in either direction the sea batters the multicoloured cliffs. I spent hours sitting on the edges of the cliffs for two days even though I could have breezed past in one. There are a few marked viewing points but all along the road are many unmarked tracks leading towards the cliff edge. The road runs no more than a kilometer from the cliffs so even though you can’t see the edge it is never very far away. Some of these spots were spectacular, I camped a night at one of these spots only about five meters from the edge. It was really good.
