The true treeless plain, 15km long?

Leaving the Cliffs the road turns inland again and onto the true part of the treeless plain. Most of the Nullarbor Plain is inland and the road only cuts through a short section of the treeless part. This bit is just about 15km long and then the road starts to change again. At fist some little bushes and then a few ‘trees’ here and there.

Past the head of the bight there is more evidence of civilisation, actually seeing some sheep and cattle along the way. Then there were some abandonded buildings followed by places that people actually live in. This is exciting! That evening I got to a little place called Nundroo, they had a backpacker lodge with beds for $10 with was too good to say no to. Later on, a car with three girls showed up, two Irish and a Japanese. They had loaded up with fruit and veg for the trek across only to discover that they have to eat or discard it before they cross into W.A. So I managed to get fresh vegetables for a tasty stir-fry.

Next morning I tried to get some water but the owner stopped me, told me I had to buy drinking water if I wanted any. Needless to say I didn’t spend another penny. I wasn’t just a random passerby, I was a guest so I thought it a bit much trying to force me to buy it, I wasn’t even looking for much just 2 litres. I found out later that he is an ex-pig which expalins a lot. I wasn’t too bothered though, the gap between stops is pretty small now, less than 100km each time.
