Partying Irish Style!
The weekend arrived so it was time to party Irish style. It was a girls birthday sometime around now so we started off with a “low-key” house party which had the neighbours complaining – a bit rich given that this was coming from the crew who threw the four day bender last week. We eventually moved on to a nightclub aptly named ‘The Palace’. This place even has an escalator, it’s more like a shopping centre devoid of shops than a night club.
We gave the poor staff all sorts of headaches, nothing bad just harmless fun but suffice to say that they were happy to be rid of us at the end of the night. Back to ‘The Nightmare on Vicar St.’ the party kicked off again ’til about 7. Sunday following a few hours of quiet time we headed to the Tea Gardens in Bondi for breakfast. The Tea Gardens sounds innocent enough but it is in fact a watering hole for Irish. The place was recently sold for $44m dollars and given that at 12 in the morning 6 tills were running I’m not surprised. Breakfast for some of my lot consisted of beer, cider or in the case of one hero a J.D. and coke! He was still hammered when we got down there so why bother eating to kill the buzz!
“Sorry do I know you?”
As the afternoon wore on and things started to get really messy we wandered onto another bar down the street. No kidding, in this place I met more people I went to school with than I’ve seen in the last 8 years! More than unnerving, I was pretty freaked out, everywhere I turned I saw familiar faces and not all of them pleasant. The highlight of the night was when a girl came up to one guy, saying how are you, haven’t seen you in ages etc…
“Sorry do I know you?” not being the appropriate response judging from her reaction. An instant later memories came flooding back of a night together in Ireland a few years ago. Brilliant! A little later in the middle of a particularly rowdy trad. session we nearly blew the rook off the place – well at least the ceiling of the bar collapsed, nobody died. And this is just an average Sunday evening, can’t even begin to imagine what it will be like on a ‘good’ night.
It’s fun but this was very wierd, I need to move on soon. Now if only my last bag would get here….
