Gateway to Kakadu
I spent the morning in Katherine, did some laundry, shopping, wandered about and generally avoided gatting back on the bike. About 3pm just as it was getting past the time where I could leave I got a suden burst of motivation, packed up and rolled out 20 minutes later. Pine Creek is the turn off for the Kakadu highway leading to Kakadu National Park and it was 90km away. I’d have to ride like the wind to get there before dark.
I got to Pine Creek just before 7pm to find everything other than the pub was shut. Even the service station which has camping grounds closes at 6pm so I just pitched my tent there anyway on a nice soft grassy site. Being able to put up a tent on grass is a luxury since I left the east coast. Next morning I got up bright and early so I could pack up before they saw my tent and charged me for it. The toilet block was locked up so I couldn’t use the facilities so hell if I was paying for it.
